Our story

Sri Lankan flavourin the heart of Wales

Ceylon M8 was born from a simple passion, to share the vibrant flavours, rich culture, and warm hospitality of Sri Lanka with the people of Wales. What began as a street food concept, inspired by the bustling food markets of Sri Lanka and a love for authentic cooking, has grown into a much loved destination at Newport Market.

Every dish is freshly prepared using quality ingredients, traditional spices, and recipes that celebrate the bold flavours of the island. Our menu centres on signature koththu and fragrant fried rice, alongside classic Sri Lankan favourites such as devilled chicken, devilled beef, hot butter squid, mutton rolls, and more, each crafted to deliver the true taste of Sri Lanka with a modern twist.

Ceylon M8 has been recognised by local food influencers and featured across regional media and digital platforms, earning nearly 200 five star reviews across Google, TripAdvisor, and delivery services. Whether you're discovering Sri Lankan cuisine for the first time or coming back for a favourite dish, our aim is the same: exceptional food, generous portions, and a warm welcome every time.

Honestly, one of the best, if not the best, South Asian/Sri Lankan food spots in Cardiff. I've tried over 10 other places and nothing comes close. Proper hidden gem.

Absolutely amazing. It's my first time trying Sri Lankan food and I'm mindblown by the explosion of flavours in the chicken koththu, freshly fried, well-spiced, scrumptiously aromatic.

Proper Sri Lankan street food vibes, nothing fancy, but the flavours are bang on. The koththu roti is the one to get, loads of flavour, really filling, and cooked fresh.

A total hidden gem! This small joint packs a serious punch when it comes to flavour. The service was wonderful and made us feel right at home. You have to try the Nasi Goreng.

The service was friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere made it feel like a proper Sri Lankan food experience away from home. Definitely one of the best koththu I've had in the UK.

Amazing Sri Lankan street food served with plenty of smiles. Portions are generous, packed with flavour, and made with fresh ingredients. Both the rice and roti dishes were delicious.

Not hard to see why this little gem has all 5 stars. I'd never tried Sri Lankan food before and it more than exceeded my expectations, they even made it mild for me, just right.

We ordered just one koththu and one fried rice for four people, and to our surprise, the portions were so generous it could easily feed more than four, the flavours were spot on.
